Mt Flume
Anxious to get another 4000fter under my belt, and starting to get concerned about the upcoming Pemi attempt.. Karen and I made plans to hike Mt Flume today. The most elevation I've done yet.. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of different things for me to try for the first time.. stairs/ladders on the trail, rock scrambles. It was overcast but really pleasant temperatures for hiking. Clouds cleared just enough for some spectacular views. We hiked the Lincoln Woods trail to Osseo Trail.. passed on the Flume Slide. I need to build up some confidence before tackling something like that!

Black Cap Mountain
The promise of ice cream can pretty much guarantee that my kids will do what I ask of them! This one had a bonus Subway lunch thrown in. So we headed up to North Conway and set out to hike Black Cap Mountain. One of those mountains that is best seasonally as the trailhead is on a road that closes over the Winter. A short, but sweet hike on another gorgeous day. Mother Nature loves to put on a show. My biggest fear on this hike was all the previous stories I'd heard about snakes on this trail. I loathe snakes. I cannot even look at a picture of one. So I lived in fear the entire time that I was going to encounter my arch nemesis. Thankfully, we did not and had a lovely day.. topped off with Subway and ice cream.

The Rattlesnakes
West Rattlesnake is a very popular hike for all ages and abilities. It is a very well maintained, relatively easy trail that is about a mile long. So, the boys and I on this warm Summer day ventured on up to Holderness to explore this much heard about area. We went up the Old Bridle Path trail, which is the main trail, however when we reached West Rattlesnake (the main point of interest) we kept going on the Ridge Trail another 0.8 miles over to East Rattlesnake. Much less visited, but equally as pretty! There is a small lookout area, with beautiful views over the Lakes region. Back to the summit of West Rattlesnake (with one minor detour as we missed a turn!). The views really are gorgeous, just be prepared to share them with lots of other people!

Loon Mountain
acidotic RACING, of which I am a member, hosts a summer mountain race at Loon Mountain every year. It's one of the bigger summer mountain races in New England and it's a lot of fun to watch. I have volunteered for the past few years and this year I decided I wanted to see what it was like to participate.. now, I didn't actually race because I don't run... and the race is tomorrow. However, while set up was being done, I took the opportunity to imagine what it must be like to actually race. I followed the course as it was set up. The course is 7 miles and took me up the infamous "Upper Walking Boss".. ouch.. to the summit of Loon Mountain's North Peak before descending back to the top of the gondola. Gorgeous day with incredible views. If you are someone who likes running and likes mountains, I highly encourage you to check this race (and the whole mountain running series) out.
