Bog Mountain

Beth and I drove over to Wilmot, NH today to see some beautiful Fall Foliage. Unfortunately Mother Nature wasn't cooperating. We made the most if it and were able to get some peekaboo views of the colors on our hike. Thankfully even with the low clouds we had some gorgeous scenery on Route 4A for the drive in. Bog Mountain Trail is part of the Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway. Parking is roadside at the trailhead. The trail is a nice little 1 mile hike up a moderate incline to the summit. Good footing with a couple of steeper pitches. There was a lovely bench up top which I'm sure is a fantastic place to sit and enjoy the view... when there is one!

Stratham Hill & Jewell Hill

Had my first adventure over at Stratham Hill today. I've heard a lot about it as I know a lot of mountain bikers and this park is set up primarily for riders, but hikers are welcome as well. My main objective was the fire tower for the NH Fire Tower list I'm working on. It can be very confusing as the mountain bikers have created many more paths than are shown on the map so we were a little all over the place today, but it was gorgeous out so we just went with the flow. We started at the main parking lot and headed out on Eagle Trail then connected onto Lovell Road Trail. We then took Kitty Rock Trail past the pond to Tote Road. Headed over towards the Elementary School then cut back on one of the mountain bike trails over to Barker Trail. Followed Barker Trail to USA Today Trail. This is where we got a bit turned around, but we found our way eventually. We followed a mountain bike trail over Jewell Hill and back to Barker Trail, picked up another mountain bike trail back to the pond. Started down Tote Road, turned back to Kitty Rock Trail. This time took Lincoln Trail over to the fire tower. I climbed up while Beth waited for me down below. These were the views for the day out over Great Bay! We then finished off the day on Lincoln Trail back to the car. Phew!

Sentinel Mountain & Mt Flagg

Parked at the camp entrance on Bents Road careful to not block the gate. Took the Sentinel Mountain Trail to the ledges overlooking Dan Hole Pond. Beautiful views. Continued on the Sentinel Connector Trail which was very leafy with no obvious path at times. Gratefully it was very well marked! I was surprised to see a shelter along the trail, that was a first for me. I'm guessing it belongs to Camp Merrowvista which is down the mountain. I continued onto the Canaan Mountain Trail which was also very leafy and would be at times difficult to navigate without the abundance of blazes. I was surprised with another shelter! Here I turned onto Mt Flagg Trail which became a mental game as the trail climbs steadily through a very rocky area. The trail finally comes out with some amazing views, but the true summit of Mt Flagg is just a bit further along, so make sure you keep going! Definitely worth the effort. I'm becoming more confident in my solo hiking!
